There are many cannabutter recipes out there but let us share with you a simple yet perfect cannabis-infused butter you can make at home.

Why make cannabutter?

If you prefer edibles over smoking cannabis, then having cannabutter on hand is your quick and easy solution to making a batch of edibles or infusing it into your food or beverages.

Cannabutter is simple to make and easy to store. All you have to do is store it in the refrigerator and spoon out the amount you need, and you’re ready to go.

Ingredients and baking tools you need for cannabutter

Before you start making our cannabutter recipe, prepare all the tools and ingredients that you will need first. By preparing everything beforehand, making cannabutter will be faster and easier.

Here are the tools and equipment you will use:

  • Oven
  • Non-stick, oven-safe tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Hand grinder
  • Saucepan or stockpot
  • Cheesecloth
  • Funnel
  • Jar (for storage purposes)

Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1 cup of ground cannabis, decarboxylated (about 7-10 grams)
  • 1 cup of water

Prepare all the tools, equipment, and ingredients before making cannabis-infused butter. Make sure you buy weed online at a legitimate dispensary to ensure the highest quality.

Once you have everything set up, let’s start making cannabutter!

Step 1: Decarb the buds

Decarbing the cannabis buds is the most important step that most people overlook. Skipping this step will result in a weaker and inactive cannabutter. Why is it important? Cannabis buds produced THCA. The heat converts this THCA into THC when heated. THC is responsible for the relaxing or euphoric effects in your body. In preparing your weed edibles, you need to apply the same thing before you mix it with your cannabutter.

Here’s how to decarb your buds:

  1. Preheat your oven to 245ºF (118ºC).
  2. Cover your tray with parchment paper.
  3. Place your cannabis buds on your oven-safe, non-stick tray. Make sure to spread them out.
  4. Put your tray into your oven.
  5. Set the oven timer for 30 to 40 minutes.
  6. Gently shake the tray to mix your weed buds every 10 minutes to make sure they get even cooking.

Older and drier cannabis buds will require less time in the oven. We highly recommend low and slow decarbing. This way, you can preserve all those precious cannabinoids better.

Step 2: Grind the decarb-cannabis

With a hand grinder, coarsely grind your decarboxylated cannabis buds.

Step 3: Melt the butter

In a stock pot or saucepan, mix in 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of water. Simmer on low heat. Let your butter melt.

The water will help regulate the temperature and stop your butter from burning.

Step 4: Add the cannabis and  simmer the mixture

Then, when you see your butter melting, add your coarsely ground cannabis buds. Simmer the mixture on low heat for about 2 to 3 hours. Ideally, below 200ºF but above 160ºF.

Make sure your mixture never comes to a full boil. Remember, low and slow.

Step 5: Filter the cannabutter

Let the mixture cool off.

Line your funnel with cheesecloth. Put it on top of your jar or any container you chose, then pour in your cooled-down mixture. Let it strain freely.

Whatever you do, DO NOT squeeze your cheesecloth. When you squeeze, some small bad-tasting cannabis plant materials might get mixed into your cannabutter.

Step 6: Store the butter in the fridge

Refrigerate your cannabutter container.

After about an hour in your fridge, you will see water at the bottom of your container. You can remove the solid butter using a knife. Then, drain the water out. Remember, your cannabutter needs to be refrigerated first and settle before you remove the water. Or else, some of your precious cannabutter will go down the drain with the water.

Once your cannabutter is ready, you can start enjoying it in weed edibles, food, or beverages. Make sure you use a cannabutter ratio calculator for the correct dosage to determine the potency of your infused food or drinks.

Tips to enjoy cannabutter

There are many ways to enjoy cannabutter. And the most common of all is spreading it on bread or special brownie, as well as baked in weed cookies. However, there are other ways for you to enjoy it. Here are a few:

Baked potato

This is a very simple way of using your cannabutter.

  1. Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC). Bake your potato for about 45 minutes to an hour. Then allow it to cool down.
  2. Score your potato with a knife. Scoop some potato flesh out and put it in a bowl.
  3. Add your sour cream, cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, and your cannabutter to the bowl with the potato flesh. Mix well.
  4. Place the mixture into the potato skin.
  5. Top with cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake the potato for 10 minutes or until the cheddar cheese is melted.
  7. Optional: Top with chives, chopped bacon, and sour cream.

Pasta

Cannabutter is versatile and easy to work with. You can use it just like your usual unsalted butter and add it to any pasta dish. You can replace regular butter with cannabutter. We found an easy but super tasty cannabis pasta dish recipe you can check out.

Potcorn

This is way easier than your special brownie.

  1. On a large stockpot, heat your vegetable oil over medium heat with ground cannabis for an extra boost.
  2. Stir until the vegetable oil turns green.
  3. Add your corn kernels.
  4. Cover your pot and gently shake the pot when you hear popping sounds.
  5. When you don’t hear any popping sound, turn the heat off and remove the lid.
  6. Add cannabutter and salt. Mix well.

You can replace your usual butter with cannabutter to add an extra boost of energy. To be blunt, cannabutter is versatile and there are more applications and uses than we can list.

Benefits of cannabis edibles

Many people still prefer smoking weed to feel the effects. However, cannabis edibles are getting more popular this year.

When you smoke cannabis, the smell tends to stick to your clothes, furniture, or curtains. They might help ease your pain and stress symptoms, however, removing all of the smell in your home is tricky. Plus, if you have children or people with asthma in your home or where you smoke, you have to worry about second-hand smoking.

With cannabis edibles, you don’t have to worry about all these things, because they are more lung-friendly compared to smoking.

One of the benefits of cannabis edibles is the variety, not just brownies. There are a wide array of possible applications and ways for you to incorporate marijuana, hash oil, or hashish into your daily meals with cannabutter having great health benefits

Another benefit is that it has longer-lasting effects compared to smoking cannabis. Though, it takes longer to kick in. And lastly, they are more discreet. There is little to no smell when it comes to cannabis edibles.

Many researchers are trying to figure out if there are any side effects of cannabis edibles. So far, these edibles help reduce anxiety and symptoms of chronic pain and illnesses.
