There is a mass number of options when buying a marijuana bong in the market that sometimes it can overwhelm a person looking for one. This article will help you narrow down your options before going out in the market.

Marijuana Bong defined

The term “bong” is widely known as the water pipe used when smoking dry herbs. Sometimes, these water pipes are also referred to as “water bongs”.

Bongs may be sold in different shapes and sizes but all have the same basic parts: The bowl (where marijuana is loaded and combusted), a stem (a small tube that allows the smoke to travel from the bowl to the base), a water chamber (can be bubble or beaker shaped that cools the smoke as it passes through the water), and a tube (where filtered smoke fills) ending in the mouthpiece.

When cannabis is lit up in the bowl, it produces a smoke that travels to the stem. The smoke then goes into the water chamber, where it is being diffused and cooled when passing the water inside. Filtered smoke fills and goes up through the tube, reaching the mouthpiece.

Due to this mechanism, bongs offer the coolest smoke because of the increased airflow and circulation distance it travels before reaching the user. It has a smoke temperature of 100-150 degrees Fahrenheit whereas compared to smoking cannabis using joints and blunts are at 150-200 degrees Fahrenheit.

These devices require a little maintenance besides washing occasionally and changing of water and gauzes. Bongs are in no need of charging, just herbs, cold water, and good lung capacity.

History

The term “bong” was born in the United States of America during the Vietnam War. It has been said the US soldiers were stationed in military bases in Thailand and heard locals calling bamboo water pipes as “baung”s, describing the bamboo pipes used in Thailand during the 16th century.

Bong industry boomed in the 20th century with the birth of glass bongs in the 1960s and 1970s. Bob Snodrass, godfather of the modern day water pipes, invented the funming technique where he used gold and silver to color the borosilicate glass he used to make the water pipes their characteristic psychedelic colors.

Then in 1993, Snodgrass taught Cameron Tower how to make glass pieces. Cameron Tower is now being widely credited for being the pioneer of creating a complete 100 percent handheld glass bong.

The standard procedure to make modern bongs is the borosilicate glass technique since this method avoids breaking of the glass due to the heat resistance.

Evaluating for your next bong

Budget

Marijuana bong is not costly as you think. The selling price of bongs in the market is the sum of 2 major costs in making the product. One is the type of material used in making. Two is the bong’s complexity in both aesthetic and design.

A bong’s price range can range from less than 19 Canadian dollars to hundreds of dollars therefore there are bongs available for every budget.

$ 5 – $ 25 (CAD)

Bongs at these cheap prices do exist and they are functional. If you want a standard bong, go with this price range. You can get a bong with a plastic carburettor, you can choose between plastic and glass variants and the bong comes with a base.

$ 25 – $ 50 (CAD)

At these prices, your options get better in both quality and aesthetic. Besides plastic and glass variants, you can also find ceramic bongs at these prices.

$ 100 (CAD)

A hundred dollar price is where bigger bongs belong, such as percolators for bongs with multiple carburetors. You can get a good bong with this price that is made of glass, ceramic, wood, and metal.

$ 1000 (CAD)

Bongs with a 1000 CAD price tag are the most high quality glass bongs but for a good reason. Glass bongs are difficult to create and are also considered as a work of art. You can also get bongs customized at this price.

These prices of marijuana bong will always not be the equivalent to the quality of the experience.

Material

Glass

Being the most popular material used to create bongs because it is the preferred type among most users, there are hundreds of designs and sizes made. This material is highly recommended because glass doesn’t affect the flavor of the smoke. Bongs made of glass are very easy to monitor resin build up because it is transparent and it is easy to clean when the resin build-up begins to be a nuisance. A lot of users also have said that smoking cannabis using a glass bong has the smoothest smoking experience. Due to these factors, glass made bongs can be more expensive than others.

Plastic

Next to glass, plastic made bongs are the second most popular material because of its durability. You can drop a plastic bong and there won’t be any damage done. Prices of plastic bongs are fairly cheap in comparison to other materials. A downside of bongs made of plastic is that it might slightly change how your smoke will taste.

Silicone

Silicone bongs are very travel handy because they are medium sized and its durability makes it almost indestructible and in . Nowadays, there are a lot of varieties being sold and at a very affordable price in the market.

Ceramic

If silicone bongs are great for travelling, ceramic made bongs are not. Ceramic bongs are heavy and are much larger in comparison to any other material. It is available in different shapes, colors and sizes. A downside to ceramic bongs is the fact that it doesn’t have exceptional percolation.

Bamboo

From basic bamboo to designed with metal, varnish and paint, bamboo bongs are popular. If you want your single purchase to go a long way when you also treat it right, bamboo bongs are for you.

Metal

Metal bongs are not so popular or recommended despite it’s good durability and affordable selling price. The reason behind it is the fact that the metal used is that it profoundly affects the taste of your smoke. Also, you can never immediately know when to clean the bong unlike the transparency in glass bongs.

Size

Bongs are generally categorized into 3 major sizes: small, medium, and large.

Small sized bongs are around 8 inches or less and are very convenient for smoking. It is semi-portable and this size is the easiest to hide. Due to the size, this has the least amount of drag and is easy to hit.

The most popular size is the medium which is about 8 to 14 inches tall. It is easy to hold, load, and smoke, making it best for casual, social, or repetitive smoking. These bongs are larger than other standard ones and range above 14 inches.

For social smoking, events or for seasoned smokes these large bongs are the best choice.

Design

Lung Capacity

You have to consider how long you can hold your breath because in this case, for example, a three foot long bong will not be suitable or enjoyable for an individual who can only hold her breath for a few seconds. So, choose a bong that allows you to smoke comfortably.

Conclusion

There is no single marijuana bong best or perfect for everyone. Finding the right product for you should be backed with research but it always begins with what you want.

    I’ve been smoking for about a year but purchased my first bong a month ago. As someone who smokes to help elevate PTSD symptoms (and of course I do it for fun too lol) the bong has been a game changer. I find with very few hits, it help snaps me out of whatever I have going on to PTSD, fast.
    If you dont have one, I HIGHLY recommended you get one.

    I’ve used a small bubbler for years. I like it better than the big bongs because it’s light weight and easy to clean.

    I’ve also dropped three or four, and it’s $20 to replace instead of hundreds.

    With corona virus going around it’s not a good time for passing the bong though.
