Weed, ganja, pot, and marijuana these names refer to cannabis, a plant that is used for medical, recreational, and industrial reasons.
Many people that are not so familiar with the plant thought that hashish and weed are the same.
That might be true, but not correct.
So what is the difference?
Let’s find out.

Weed

Cannabis, marijuana, weed, ganja, pot, etc., these are some of the names that can describe weed, a plant that is used for medical and recreational purposes. Specifically, weed is the dried flowering tops of the marijuana plant. The plant contains a non-psychoactive element called CBD (cannabidiol) and the psychoactive compound known as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Out of the 483 known compounds in cannabis, THC is the most popular compound which gives the “high” or “stoned” feeling. Other than THC, the non-psychoactive CBD (cannabidiol), which has the medical traits of the plant is the second known element of the plant. These compounds activate some specific receptors that can be found throughout the entire body.

Types of Weed

There are 3 commonly grown species of cannabis, the Cannabis indica, Cannabis sativa, and Cannabis ruderalis. But, because of Cannabis ruderalis’ very low THC content, it is not very useful for medical or recreational purposes.

The Common Uses of Marijuana

When talking about weed, we automatically think about its uses in medical and recreational purposes. Although, some people in some places use weed for spiritual purposes.

Recreational Weeds

Because weeds have psychoactive elements in them, it provides psychological effects when consumed.
Consumers prefer weed for recreational consumption for the reason of being natural and the benefits they can get from it.

The most common effects of weeds are:

  • Euphoria and relaxation
  • Increased awareness of perception
  • Increased libido
  • Altered perception of time
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increased appetite

Medical Cannabis

Medical marijuana is the usage of weed and its cannabinoids to treat undesired symptoms of illnesses. Because weed is illegal in most countries, extensive medical study and research are hindered by these restrictions. But, there is limited evidence that it can treat and relieve the following:

  • Nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy
  • Increased appetite for people infected with HIV/AIDS
  • Chronic pain and muscle spasm treatment

Weed for Spirituality

Several religions around the world revere weed as sacred and used as an entheogen. In a religious sect, an entheogen is a substance used in shamanic or spiritual circumstances.
So, weed is a plant, right?

Then, what is hash or hashish?

Hash or Hashish

Hashish or hash is made by extracting resin from the marijuana plant. By beating dried marijuana trimmings in a series of screens of various sizes, you can create hashish or hash from separated trichomes that result in kief that is heated and pressed into blocks.
You can consume hashish by dabbing, or if it has undergone through decarboxylation, you can consume it orally.
Certain strains are cultivated specifically to produce more amounts of trichomes just for hash or hashish making.

There are two types of hash or hashish:

  • Bubble Hash – The refined type of hashish in which the plant fiber and residuals are removed.
  • Charas – A marijuana concentrate made with the residue that is left in your hands when rubbing live female flowers between your hands.

How to Consume Hashish

Hash is commonly consumed via dabbing, bong, pipe, vaporizer, or joint, in this way, it is usually consumed with a mixture of tobacco or weeds.
Sometimes it can be consumed via oral ingestion after decarboxylation, and it can be used as a hashish based cannabis edible.

Now, we could say that the first difference between hashish and weed is that hashish is a resin that is extracted from the weed
Because hashish is derived from cannabis, hashish and weed have the same substance and properties you can find in the marijuana plant.
All the effects you can experience when smoking weed or eating it is comparable with consuming hash

In Canada, many companies and products invest in hash or hashish, you can try some of the following if you want to experience what hash or hashish tastes and feels like.

Pink Kush Bubble Hash

Pink Kush Bubble Hash is for nighttime use, made from an indica dominant strain.

Super Afghan Hash

This hash is made from Afghan strains and is usually made with purified preparations of stalked resin glands.

Gold Seal Hash

Gold Seal Hash comes with many different flavors. This is a mid-tier hash has a soft flexible texture and earthy flavor and scent.
How to distinguish hashish and weeds?

Distinguishing the differences between hash and weeds is somewhat easy if you have some previous experience with the plant.
Here are some ways to distinguish hash and weeds.

Cannabinoid Levels

You can say that hashish and weed are generally the same when it comes to its effects. However, you can also distinguish them by the amount of THC and CBD they contain. Because hashish is made by extracting resin in weeds, they usually contain more levels of cannabinoids than the marijuana plant.

Flavor

Of course there so many strains, flavors, and scents, but when you smoke hash and weed, you will notice immediately the distinct scent between the two.

Availability

Hash is not as common as weed. Hashish making is time-consuming and laborious to do. So it’s no wonder why it’s hard to come by in some countries. Also, there are specific strains for a good hash that can only be found locally in some countries.

Now, we know that hash and weeds differ in appearance, taste, cannabinoid level and the availability of both of them.
As they share the same cannabinoids, they do not have the same levels of it. They do share some of the common ways to consume them like smoking it, using bongs or joints, vaping, and even eating it.
If you are in Canada, why not try some of these amazing hashes and weeds?
Give it a shot. First of all, it’s legal and there’s always no harm in trying something new.
