100 Weed Strains to Try Before You Die
Think you’re a real cannabis connoisseur? Tell us how many of these strains you’ve tried.
We’ve put together the Granddaddy (Purple) list of 100 weed strains that you need to try before you die. Some are classics, some are new players to the game, and some are just darn silly. (Yes, there really is an Obama Kush. And a Justin Trudope.)
Throughout the list, you’ll also see a few strains that we’ve highlighted for their popularity or potency. If 100 choices overwhelm you, start with these guys first.
Keep this list bookmarked for when you want to try something new, or print it out and cross of the strains you’ve already tried. And then come back and tell us which one is your ultimate favourite.
Ready? Are you sure you’re ready? Alright. Let’s get started.
Most Popular – Indica
Let’s start with some of the more popular strains. You’ve probably ticked a few of these off of your list already. Indicas are a great choice if you want to wind down from a long day or kiss insomnia goodbye.
You can read more about each of these strains on our blog.
- Blueberry
- Northern Lights
-
Blue Mystic
-
Granddaddy Purple
-
M-39
-
Tuna Kush
Most Popular – Sativa
Not into indicas? That’s a-ok with us. Sativas are a great choice if you want more pep in your step. You’re more likely to experience a strong cerebral high instead of a heavy body high. Sativas are great for the morning if you want to run errands or start working on a new project.
- Lemon Haze
- Green Crack
- Strawberry Cough
Strain Highlight: 11. Sour Diesel
Sour Diesel is the perfect example of what a sativa can do for you. Wake and bake with this strain for giggly, euphoric effects. You’ll feel so carefree that you won’t mind if your neighbors can get a whiff of the dank smells coming from your bedroom.
You can learn more by reading our full strain review of Sour Diesel.
- Jack Herer
- Maui Wowie
Most Popular – Hybrid
And then there are the hybrids. These can be a 50/50 blend of sativa and indica or be 70/30, 80/20…you get the picture. Experiment with hybrids to get a good sense of the power of indicas vs. sativas.
Don’t sleep on these blended strains- the next one you try might just end up being your new favorite.
14. Blue Dream
We don’t have a full review of Blue Dream on our website (yet) but don’t worry – there are tons of people who can recommend this hybrid. Blue Dream is arguably the most popular cannabis strain of all time.
Blue Dream offers a great balance of relaxation and euphoria. Patients with depressing, fatigue, or pain can all use Blue Dream to treat symptoms and cruise through the day. The team at Speed Greens recommends this strain to smokers old and young, new and seasoned.
We stock Blue Dream in a few different varieties, from AA to AAAA. Keep an eye on our inventory if you want the AAAA version, and know that you’ll enjoy the same balanced effects (without shelling out too much money) by grabbing an AA product.

- Cinderella 99
- Larry OG
- Lamb’s Bread
Strain Review: 67. Pineapple Express
Did you know that Pineapple Express had been a well-known strain for years before the release of the movie? Seth Rogan’s classic stoner comedy certainly can take credit for making PE an international name, but the strain can hold its own without any Hollywood credit.
One of the most iconic scenes of the movie involves the apex of the vortex of joint engineering – the cross joint. We’ve got a full tutorial on how to roll one of these babies.
- Golden Goat
Good Strains for the Giggles
You know those times that you get high with your friends and you just can’t stop laughing? We love those times. We encourage having more of those times. So pick up a few of these strains and enjoy the euphoric effects. I mean, how can you frown while smoking a strain called Big Buddha Cheese?
- Banana Sherbet
- Wedding Cake
- Thin Mint Cookies
- Skunk #1
- Candy Land
- Damn Sour
- Big Buddha Cheese

- Rainbow Cookies
Top Canadian Strains
Canada was one of the first countries to legalize weed (we see you, Uruguay,) but our role in the weed industry goes way back. Some of the top strains in the world were developed in Canada. Canadian law says that at least 35% of pop music played on the radio should be Canadian. Will we someday see a law stating that 35% of the strains you see in dispensaries should also be Canadian? You never know.
- M39
- Island Sweet Skunk
- God Bud
- Chemo
- Romulan
- Love Potion #1
Most Delicious Strains
Smoking weed doesn’t have to be about getting high. Sometimes it’s fun to try different strains just because they taste good. Move over cheese plates – it’s time for a Cheese plate. (Or a Tangie plate, a XJ-13 plate…you name it.)
- Tangie
- Dutch Treat
- XJ-13
- Lavender
- Red-Headed Stranger
- Fruity Pebbles
“Iconic” Strains
As we start to wind down the list, we wanted to add some bucket list strains that were just plain fun. While we’ve already mentioned some strains named after marijuana icons (i.e. Jack Herer,) there’s a whole bunch of strains named after celebrities. The list goes beyond what we’ve added here, but we’re getting pretty close to 100 strains.
These strains aren’t always easy to find, but hey, you’ve got 90+ options to choose from while you seek out Obama Kush.
- Carl Sagan
- Charlie Sheen
- Bruce Banner
- Obama Kush
- Justin Trudope
We Just Love These Strains
How do we end this list? We just chose some extra strains that somehow have not made an appearance yet. Why not?
- Chernobyl
- Cherry OG
- Trainwreck
Last Words Before You Start Smoking
Well, we’ve made it through the list. These options could take you a few years to go through – and that’s ok. Experiment based on your personal needs and do what feels best for you.
Now, where can you buy all 100 of these strains?
Mix And Match Strains
Unfortunately, there is no dispensary that large in Canada yet. (We’ve had dozens of these strains in our inventory at a time, but we’re still waiting to get our hands on some of the newer or more rare bucket-list strains.)
We do have a few options if you want to start crossing a few of these strains off of your list at a time. Our mix and match options allow you to put together a handful of indicas, sativas, or hybrids and save yourself a bit of cash.
Don’t Forget About Concentrates
But don’t limit yourself to just flower. Sure, you can smoke a bit of White Widow – but you can also pick it up in budder form, straight off of our website. It’s not always easy to tell what strains you’ve baked into an edible, but you can cross off individual strains when you consume them as a budder, shatter, oil, distillate, etc.
In some cases, you’ll still get the taste and flavor of the strain in concentrate form. Other times, it will be all THC. We highly recommend experimenting with many different types of concentrates as you explore the possibilities of cannabis consumption. Plus, it’s easy to mix and match budder, live resin, and other concentrates online.
Let us know when you’ve finished all the strains on the list, and we’ll let you know when we have. Deal? Deal.
