Nothing is more relaxing than a nice cup of tea in the evening – except maybe a big fat joint of nature’s sweet cannabis. If only there was a way that we could combine the two most calming things for a nice, nighttime routine…

Guess what? You can. We’ve got a guide for how to make cannabis tea from bud, butter, and some other methods. No matter what type of cannabis you have in your house, you can infuse it into a nice glass of tea and send yourself off to bed with sweet dreams.

Let’s get into it.

How to Make Ginger and Chamomile Tea With Fresh Bud

This is a great option if you don’t have any fancy concentrates or infused ingredients handy. All you need is bud alongside your herbs.

We recommend strains like OG Kush or Cannatonic because they have a lemon or citrus scent that blends nicely with the rest of your ingredients. Keep in mind that most citrus-smelling strains are sativa-dominant hybrids or sativas themselves. Adding a sativa to this mixture in the morning will give you focus and energy without the jittery effects of caffeine.

But we’ll talk more about pairing strains with tea later on in the post.

What You Need:

  • Freshly peeled and dried ginger
  • Freshly peeled and dried lemons
  • Dried chamomile flowers
  • Freshly chopped or ground bud

Directions:

  1. If you want to get the effects of THC in your tea, you will need to decarb your bud first. If you use raw bud, you’ll get the effects of THCA, but not the psychoactive effects of THC.
  2. Add one part ginger, one part lemon, two parts chamomile, and one part bud to a glass jar. You can store this mixture in your fridge for later use.
  3. When you’re ready to make tea, add one tablespoon of your mix to a tea infuser. Steep in boiling water for at least five minutes.

How to Make Cannabis Tea With Cannabutter

Cannabutter is a useful ingredient to have around the house; it’s the base of many different types of edibles and tasty cannabis treats. But you don’t have to chew all the time. Try this recipe out for a smooth, tasty cannabis tea.

What You Need:

  • A tea bag of your choice
  • One teaspoon of cannabutter
  • 8 oz of hot water

Directions:

  1. Place tea bag and cannabutter in a mug and pour hot water over them.
  2. Steep for five minutes.

Now, that was easy, wasn’t it?

How to Make Cannabis Tea With Tincture

If you thought making cannabis tea with butter is easy, just wait until you try cannabis tincture.

We don’t really need to give you a recipe for this one. Just make a tea of your choice and add one or two full droppers of tincture to your tea. We recommend a tea with a complementing flavour just to make the drink even more yummy.

How to Make a Chai Latte With Fresh Bud

Prefer a dirty chai? We’ve got a recipe for that too.

What You’ll Need:

  • Chai black tea bag
  • ½ gram of freshly ground bud
  • 8 oz water
  • ½ stick of unsalted butter
  • Milk of your choice
  • Cinnamon
  • Coffee filter and string

Directions:

  1. First, you’ll need to infuse the tea with the butter. Melt your butter and mix thoroughly with the ground bud. Add this mixture to a coffee filter and tie it up. (The butter will just fall through a tea infuser.)
  2. Bring 8 oz of water to a boil. Once the water is bubbling, reduce the heat to a high simmer and infuse for 20 minutes.
  3. While the cannabis is finishing this process, add your black tea bag to your teacup and add 8 oz of boiling water. Let steep for five minutes.
  4. Add your milk and infused water. You should have 16 oz of a delicious chai latte. Finish off by adding cinnamon.

Pairing Tea Flavours With Cannabis Strains

So we’ve talked briefly about how to match strains with different teas. If you’re making your own tea, take some hints from the ingredients you’re using. Lemon tea calls for a citrus strain like Lemon OG or Ghost Train Haze.

If you’re using a tea bag, use this pairing guide.

What Strains To Pair With White Tea

Choose a sweet strain that will complement the honey-like flavours in the young tea leaves. We like Jack Herer, Acapulco Gold, or Candy Land.

These teas are a bit more mature and have a more herbal taste. We prefer strains like Skywalker OG, Harlequin, and White Widow in our green teas.

What Strains to Pair With Peppermint Tea

Minty flavours are the best for people who can’t get into the herbal flavours tea but still want the effects of this lovely drink. Pair Northern Lights or Girl Scout Cookies with your favourite peppermint tea.

What Strains to Pair With Oolong Tea

Doesn’t oolong tea make you feel like you’re roaming through a forest? Try woodsy-tasting strains like Bubba Kush, Blue Dream, or Dutch Treat in your oolong tea.

What Strains to Pair With Black Tea

Black tea is more versatile – you’ve probably enjoyed a few different types of black tea with additional flavours and aroma. Go by the flavours that are in your black tea. You can check out a whole list of strains and their flavours by using the Cannabis Wheel.

Get creative and experiment with your tea! Don’t stress too much about pairings or recipes – after all, it’s just herbs and hot water.
