Live resin is a BHO concentrate made with a unique method of pre-extraction. It contains a flavorful aroma, unlike other concentrates that lack terpenes, which is responsible for its distinct features.

There are so many ways of extracting compounds of cannabis. If talking about concentrates, the most common form of concentrate is Butane Hash Oil (BHO)

Many cannabis extraction techniques that are being used today intentionally purged terpenes, the one that is responsible for its distinct flavor and aroma, leaving the users with a concentrate without taste nor smell.

If you are an aroma-loving consumer who loves the unparalleled smell of ready-to-harvest cannabis plants, you will surely love a terpene-loaded live resin.

The Aromatic Cannabis Terpenes

Unlike strong-smelling flowers and plants, terpenes in marijuana lure pollinators and repel predators. Many factors like climate, weather, age, etc. can influence the growth of terpenes.

Because different types of terpenes are known in the marijuana plant, every strain has a unique terpene composition and type.

Terpene also plays an important role in defining the effects of various cannabis strains.

The glands of cannabis that produce THC and CBD are the same glands that produce terpenes, an oily substance that is responsible for the distinct aroma of different marijuana strains.

When cannabinoids and terpenes work well in combination with each other, this is called the “entourage effect”.

As of today, there are at least 20,000 kinds of terpenes that can be found in nature, and you can find hundreds of these terpenes in the cannabis plant.

Yet, some of these terpenes are exclusive only in the marijuana plant, here are some those terpenes:

Myrcene terpene

Mangoes also contain myrcene terpenes, a common terpene also found in the cannabis plant. Also, some marijuana plants have a  65% myrcene terpene composition. These terpenes give marijuana its distinct aroma. This is also used as an identifier in distinguishing sativa strains from indica strains. A cannabis plant that has less than a 0.5% myrcene terpene composition is said to be sativa,

Myrcene terpene may possess anti-inflammatory properties.

Limonene terpene

This is the second terpene that is commonly found in cannabis plants. It can also be found in common citrus fruits. Limonene terpenes produce a citrusy smell. But, not all cannabis strains contain limonene terpenes. Not only does it have antibacterial and antifungal properties, but limonene terpenes can also alleviate stress and enhance your mood.

Caryophyllene terpene

Caryophyllene terpene can also be found in cinnamon and black pepper. Caryophyllene terpene is responsible for the spicy, woody, and peppery aroma in cannabis. This terpene is also used for anxiety, inflammation, and depression treatment.

Linalool terpene

Linalool terpene produces a lavender-like aroma which is praised for its anti-anxiety, stress-relieving and anti-depressant effects.

Linalool is responsible for relieving anxiety associated with THC consumption. Therefore, its anxiolytic properties might well be a good option for people with anxiety disorders.

Pinene terpene

As its name suggests, pinene terpenes are mostly found in pine trees. Pinene terpenes are the ones responsible for giving pine trees their distinctive smell. With two variants, namely alpha and beta, both variants have distinct properties. Alphas produce a “pine” aroma, and betas produce a rosemary-like smell. Not only do pinene terpenes have strong antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, but it is also a strong bronchodilator that has been used in herbal medicines for centuries.

Humulene terpene

Almost all cannabis strains stimulate appetite which consumers use for treating nausea and loss of appetite. Marijuana strains that contain humulene terpenes are paradoxical since they may decrease your appetite.

Found also in basil, hops, and clovers, humulene terpenes have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

As you have already known, marijuana has more than a hundred terpene types each possessing its unique effect. This means that you can cultivate marijuana strains with specific terpene and cannabinoid profiles according to your preference.

Terpenes and Live Resin

Live resin concentrates are a special kind of BHO (Butane Hash Oil) that retains the aroma and flavor of the cannabis plant from which it was made.

This means that you can enjoy the flavor and aroma of your concentrate’s strain.

When they are still fresh, marijuana plants contain hundreds of terpenes which are gradually lost in the traditional drying and curing process.

Unlike other methods of pre-extraction, live resin is made with cryogenically frozen fresh cannabis plants during harvest.

Since live resin originated between 2011 to 2013, it is still new to many cannabis industries. Willian Fenger and EmoTek Lab’s founder “Giddy Up” were responsible for introducing live resin to the cannabis concentrate industries.

Live resins differ from each other in properties like viscosity as it can range from fluid-like sap to solid shatters.

I prefer HFSE over live resin, it does smell more but is purer than shatter IMO. Hopefully we see the prices come down as it is relatively easy to make. I feel sugar shack tastes alot like sweet tooth. Mycrene is good for anxiety and muscle spasms as a terpene.
